i finished up a few more shots from the elite shoot. this was a really fun shoot… everyone was great and really willing to work… it was hot, but everyone was good sports about it… i really loved the effect that this plain metal building gave me with the unfinished cement. my thoughts were beauty of women and dance in such a rough setting… it allowed me to focus more on the elegance and beauty of each dancer.
so nice to finally be away!!! the beach the wind and the waves!
internet is scarce… or barley there so i can’t really blog the whole trip, but it is nice to be “unplugged” for a change. my little stud (james charles) is having the time of his life… he loves the sand! he really loves the pool at our condo too… it goes as shallow as 1ft so he can stand up and play in the water without being held for a change. i may post some new pics soon, so keep checking back.
crucé was recently asked to design a 2 page spread advertizing the “Great Catch”. This shot was edited to show fingertip tatoos spelling out great catch. The product’s main purpose is to develop fingertip control to aid in catching a football… their slogan for the ad is “Good hands start with great fingertips”. The ad will be in a Mississippi football magazine. You can read more about the product at www.greatcatch.org.
i think this has to be my favorite shot out of the bunch… i did a shoot yesterday for Elite. I wasn’t sure what to expect because i was shooting classes (random) and posed work… i am pretty satisfied with the outcome… it was such a challenge though during classes… the walls were covered with mirrors from floor to ceiling… despite that i think it produced some really cool lighting effects. the biggest challenge was consistency… you could never tell what the light was going to do. if it wasn’t directly in the lens it was in the glass. the posed shots were done outside, and believe it or not it was during the day… the sun was warm and bright. we set up on the side of a metal building with roughly pored concrete which produced an amazing texture. after shooting there for a while we basically just turned around and shot into an overgrown field… it was really interesting because there was a 4 foot drop off from the slab to the field with very loose soil… (and i was wearing white shoes… lol…) it was tight and itchy, but the results were amazing… i would defiantly love to work with this group again… i had a blast. another perk was to see Blake McGrath in action. he was in doing lessons for the class… Blake is from LA and dances for the likes of britney spears, gap and ipod commercials, and from what i understand he is about to go on tour with janet jackson. this guy is an amazing dancer. you can check him out at www.blakemcgrath.com. blake was brought in through muse dance co out of California… www.musedanceco.com. i also was able to meet a great chick… Jessica Starr. she is the director of muse and works with mtv, vh1, and also with names such as elton john, capitol records, warner bro, etc… i have to say she was just great! i really enjoyed working with her.
So my day begins… I open my eyes after a long night to my wife getting ready for her summer classes. This can be a really interesting time of the day. This is mainly because I never know how I am going to wake up. Sometimes I just want to scream “SHUT THE HELL UP… I AM TRYING TO SLEEPâ€, but I don’t because I am never ready for unwanted tension in the morning. Other times I wake up to the sounds of my wife and son and I can barley open my eyes to see (probably because I am over exhausting myself doing research on photography or doing design work till the wee hours of the night) but I just want to mess with them and have some morning fun! Keep in mind that this all happens in bed because I can barley move and it would be extremely dangerous to move around without being able to see (my son puts his toys everywhere… must get it from Rebecca!).
So that was this morning waking up… and wanting to hang out. I love messing with Rebecca in the morning! Well… I love messing with her all the time, but that’s just me! For some reason James Charles left early (didn’t even tell me bye… that little punk!). My wife is off to her classes and I am off to the office. Do a few things… deal with a few issues… talk about goals and future schedules with my ministry counterpart Georgette (great chick!). and I’m out!
Now I am heading to Lafayette… run into a few teens and visit for a while and talk about the Steubenville conference that we had this past weekend. Then at the window (McDonalds) I visit with a mom (who I love to mess with) who works there and I make my way to Lafayette.
I have a meeting at 1p and another sometimes after 2:30p, but first I head to CC’s for coffee (tall vanilla late with whip… always!), personal time, computer time, etc… Of course my daily routine always consists of me having a long phone conversation with Daniel. Now keep in mind that Daniel and I are business partners AND friends… This makes life really interesting. We talk business all the time, but my opinion on that is weird. We are friends who have a common passion about design, photography, the arts, etc… not necessarily the same opinion or beliefs (which opens the floor to frequent debate about “bad†design!), so we always end up talking about something that may appear to be business, and can be classified as business, but we are really talking about our passions of the design world! So basically it is non stop conversation either about a ton of stuff or nothing at all (like teenage boyfriend/girlfriend relationships listening to each other breathe on the phone… of course while we are doing design work or surfing on the internet)… for this reason we purchased web cams… we say it is for business communication (which we do use it for), but it beats the hell out of wasting precious minutes (more for Daniel, because I have free incoming) and we can at least visualize each others emotions when we love or hate something.
Now I am off to a meeting… I may or may not continue this later….
courtney graciously allowed me to use her as a test subject while i am getting to know my new equipment… this shoot really helped me a ton!
